Community Conservation
To reinforce the conservation achieved on the beach, sustain our organization, discourage poaching and promote awareness for the conservation of sea turtles, La Tortuga Viva also leads educational projects to empower our communities, local team, and future generations. Beside raising awareness among tourists and visitors, educating our audiences is vital to our success in preventing sea turtle poaching and consumption, which is still common in rural areas of the world.
Professional Training for the Local Team
Our team members receive periodic capacity-building training to enhance their knowledge and conservation practices. Training is conducted by specialists in the fields of conservation, biology and representatives from other organizations to train our team in the field.
Education for the local communities
We work closely with local schools of all-grades to teach the next generation to care for and take action in protecting the environment. Monthly classes and periodic activities are organized by our volunteers. Besides the students, we also involve the public in events such as turtle releases, beach-cleans, workshops and open-days to our sanctuary.
