En el pasado, Eucebio fue cazador y robaba huevos de tortuga, pero en los años 90, se dio cuenta de que ya casi no había tortugas, de repente, era muy raro ver tortugas en la playa y se sentó culpable y cuando se conformó el primer equipo de conservación, quiso ser parte de él para recuperar la población de tortugas.
Reflexión:
“…para mi la playa se siente como mi propia casa y cuidar las tortugas se siente como cuidar a mi familia, todos somos de aquí, la gente y las tortugas igual, somos parte de lo mismo (del mismo ecosistema) y todo está relacionada, así que cada parte merece la protección porque si desaparece una especia los efectos se van a sentir hasta los humanos también, empecé el trabajo por senti culpable y lo continuo a través de esos años en parte por la necesidad a traer algo (las dispensa, propinas) a mi familia pero también tengo cariño hacia las tortugas y cuidarlas me hace sentir muy bien, cuando veo una tortuga muerte ahora me siento mucha tristeza...”

How he got involved:
He was a turtle hunter, killing turtles and eating the eggs, but in the 1990s he realized there were barely any turtles. It was very rare to see a turtle on the beach and he felt guilty and when the formation of the first encampment began, he wanted to be part of the rehabilitation of the turtle population.
Reflection:
“…for me the beach feels like my own house and to care for the turtles feels like caring for my own family. We’re all here, people and turtles alike. We’re part of the same [ecosystem] and everything is related, therefore each part deserves protection because if a species disappears the effects will be felt by humans as well. I started this work because I felt guilty and I continue it through these years not only for the need to gain something (groceries, spending money) for my family but I also care for the turtles and that makes me feel very good. Now, when I see a dead turtle I feel very sad…“
